We invite you to a research project about the relationship between physical theatre and nature, which will take place over a series of eight sessions in the “small canyon of Lykavittos hill”. In these sessions, we will train in physical theatre practices from the lineage of Polish theatre influenced by Grotowski. We will also base our training in techniques of meditation and improvisation from Barbara Dilley’s Contemplative Dance Practice, and we will work with text using selections from the poems of George Seferis. The development of Contemplative Dance Practice in a natural environment is a product of the Geopoetics doctoral research practice of Anna Tzakou (Nisyros, 2013).
The workshop is a continuation of research and training Angela Delichatsios undertook while developing her work-in-progress performance “Entering the Canyon”, which was shown in June 2014 in Lykavyttos, with the collaboration of Andriana Alexiou. The themes of the work-in-progress, and also of the current research, are related to the following questions:
- what is missing for us from nature when we live in the city?
- can we make up for some part of this “missing piece” through theatrical meetings in nature?
- can you build a future performance where the audience and the performers both experience restoration and connection in nature?
At each meeting, the first part will be made up of training, so that the participants can develop a common vocabulary with which to improvise in the second part. Angela Delichatisos will lead the training, and she will hold the space during the open improvisation time, meaning she will operate as an ouside observer, in order to provide feedback to the participants and to observe the development of the research.
The research workshop is open to actors, dancers, musicians, and performers with an interest in physical theatre and nature. The workshop is also open to people who are interested in deepening their contact with their bodies, with nature, and with their expressive potential. All that is asked is that the participants offer their full presence.

Angela Delichatsios is an actress, director, and theatre instructor based in Athens, Greece. She teaches Polish/Grotowski-influenced physical theatre in Greece and the United States. She is a founder of flagrante delicto theatre arts, and a co-founder of Band of Toughs. She holds an MA in Acting Techniques from Manchester Metropolitan University/Teatr Piesn Kozla, an MFA from Naropa University’s MFA Theatre: Contemporary Performance Program, and a BA in Social Studies from Harvard University. Recent acting and directing credits in Greece, Poland, UK, and US, include: Entering the Canyon, exotic exile, Drawing on Schulz, Finders Keepers Losers Weepers, Big Love, Good Girls Don’t But I Do, Swimming Upstream.

Σας καλούμε σε μια έρευνα πάνω στη σχέση του σωματικού θεάτρου με τη φύση, που θα πραγματοποιηθεί σε μια σειρά οχτώ συναντήσεων στο «φαράγγι του Λυκαβηττού». Σ’ αυτές τις συναντήσεις θα εξασκηθούμε πάνω σε πρακτικές physical theatre της γενεαλογίας του πολωνικού θεάτρου που έχει επηρεαστεί από τον Grotowski. Θα βασιστούμε σε τεχνικές διαλογισμού και αυτοσχεδιασμού του Contemplative Dance Practice της Barbara Dilley και θα δουλέψουμε με λόγο χρησιμοποιώντας αποσπάσματα από ποιήματα του Σεφέρη. Η ανάπτυξη του Contemplative Dance Practice σε φυσικό τοπίο είναι προιόν της Γεωποιητικής πρακτικής διδακτορική έρευνα της Άννας Τζάκου (Νίσυρος, 2013).
Το εργαστήριο είναι συνέχεια της δουλειάς της Άντζελας Δεληχάτσιου στα πλαίσια της work-in-progress performance Είσοδος στο Φαράγγι, που παρουσιάστηκε τον Ιούνιο του 2014 στον Λυκαβηττό, με την συνεργασία της Αντριάνας Αλεξίου. Το θέμα του work-in-progress και αυτής της έρευνας έχει να κάνει με τις εξής ερωτήσεις:
- τί μας λείπει από την φύση όταν ζούμε στην πόλη;
- μπορούμε να καλύψουμε ένα μέρος αυτού του «κενού» μέσα από θεατρικές συναντήσεις στη φύση;
- μπορεί να χτιστεί μια μελλοντική περφόρμανς όπου το κοινό και οι περφόρμερ ταυτόχρονα βιώνουν ανακούφιση και επαφή μέσα στη φύση;
Σε κάθε συνάντηση, το πρώτο μέρος θα είναι training, ώστε να αναπτύξουν οι συμμετέχοντες ένα κοινό λεξιλόγιο με βάση το οποίο θα αυτοσχεδιάζουν ελεύθερα στο δεύτερο μέρος. H Άντζελα Δεληχάτσιου θα καθοδηγεί το training και θα είναι η υπεύθυνη του χώρου στο κομμάτι του ελεύθερου αυτοσχεδιασμού, δηλαδή θα λειτουργεί σαν εξωτερικός παρατηρητής, έτσι ώστε να προσφέρει feedback στους συμμετέχοντες και να παρακολουθεί την πρόοδο της έρευνας.
Το ερευνητικό εργαστήριο απευθύνεται σε ηθοποιούς, χορευτές, μουσικούς και περφόρμερ με ενδιαφέρον για το σωματικό θέατρο και τη φύση. Επίσης απευθύνεται σ’ ανθρώπους που ενδιαφέρονται να εμβαθύνουν την επαφή με το σώμα τους, τη φύση, και την εκφραστική δυναμική τους, αρκεί όλοι όσοι συμμετέχουν να προσφέρουν την πλήρη παρουσία τους.

Βιογραφικό: Η ΄Αντζελα Δεληχάτσιου είναι ηθοποιός, σκηνοθέτης, και εκπαιδεύτρια από την Αμερική. Έχει MA in Acting από την ομάδα Song of the Goat Theatre στη Πολωνία και το Manchester Metropolitan University. Έχει MFA in Contemplative Performance από το Naropa University, και ΒΑ in Social Sciences από το Harvard University.
