Fragments joined tenderly
A big city. A hill. Two women.
A journey from the Personal to the Collective

For the second consecutive year, the theatrical performance Fragments joined tenderly returns to the hill of Lycabettus for only four showings. On a slope among the trees, two women tread a path that is spatial and symbolic at the same time, articulating questions and anxieties concerning ecology and society today.

“How do you explain your life to a city tree?”

A feeling of fragmentation within modern ways of life and a desire for contact with nature as a place of connection are the starting points for this journey. Initially, the fragmentary poetic discourse together with the bodies create small rituals of connection with the space, building a personal narrative. Then, a dialogue unfolds between the philosophical considerations of Olga Tokarchuk and a story of encounter with the Zapatista culture in Mexico, a directly democratic society characterized by ecological and social justice. From the poetic discourse to the political and philosophical, Language emerges as a means of searching for another way of seeing and building the world.

“The world is a fabric that we weave every day. The world is made of words.”

Fragments joined tenderly is a theatrical performance about reconnecting with nature in the city, the awareness of ecological destruction, and a search for sustainable examples of the relationship between society and nature. Combining fragments of poetry with political and philosophical discourses, as seen through the female gaze, the performance attempts to build a bridge of connection with nature and with a culture influenced by indigenous worldviews: it seeks in a shattered world a sense of wholeness and hope.

“In our dreams we have seen another world.”

The group strives to make theater in a “political way”, which means for us that the collaboration of the members is based on “horizontal co-creation”, with the members taking responsibility for all stages of the artistic production. The group works with methodologies of devised theater, physical theater and site-specific performance.
